  • Sven on Trascend

Hi... I tried playing pirates on Trascend but the task seems impossible o_O
As soon as my bases hit size 2, drones start rioting... it starts terribly slow because sea formers and sea colony pods cost so much more than their land counterparts. Plus, as soon as my colonies hit size 2, drones start rioting and I have to convert a worker to a doctor... as bases get bigger, I can't have enough workers to sustain my nutrients expenses because I have to turn more of them into doctors... so my bases don't grow. Plus, getting any building (or worse, secret projects) is insane because getting minerals is harder at the sea, and I can't even have almost any workers because of drone problems. I also stay behind in the research department because I have no research bonus and building any labs at my bases is a huge problem. So far I managed to play at Trascend only with Gaians and University... those seem to be the most overpowered factions to me... am I wrong?
Anyway, I need some pointers... or better a turn-by-turn game plan, because I feel completely lost.
    Thanks, this forum is awesome!

It sounds like you have no units in your bases. Try build a scout and garrison it - then it's first at size 3 you get problems.

Make your best min base a seaformer factory - that's more efficient than letting the individual bases build their own.

actually I'm leaving always at least a unit in each base to work as police... unless sea units cannot act as police?

IIRC air, arty and sea units can't act as police. Try go to the base view and select PSYCH.

Edit : fired up the program and loaded a Svensgard save - no, sea units doesn't count as police while a scout do - disbanding it immediatedly sent my size 2 base into riots .

Thanks, this actually makes the game playable I never noticed 'cause I never bothered with sea bases before I started playing Sven. Now I only have to find a way to secure minerals fast so that the enemy doesn't grab all the secret projects during my early game... especially the Weather Paradigm and the Virtual World

You could either build a base on land, or build a sea base adjacent to land and then send a regular former to build mines or forests (and later, boreholes). The first choice may be preferable. If you build a sea base near land and then another faction colonizes that territory, you won't be able to work the land tiles.

That would be cheating and not in the Svensgaard spirit

Getting a land base though means getting a transport foil, which means extra expenses... or waiting for amphibious pods... either way, you are far better off just playing a land-based faction. I still have to find a way to play Sven by exploiting his strengths effectively.

See this old thread for more discussion on how to play the Pirates.

Actually, I'm not sure if this is good or bad - I assume that it will cost you a lot of sleepless nights with "just one more turn"

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask - there are no stupid questions - only stupid answers and there are several here that tries to avoid such. Petek is one of those that you should listen to - he's pretty good
