Multiplayer Question

Hi, I've been playing SMAC and SMACX for years and recently started browsing this forum and playing multiplayer. I was wondering if there was any way to start in multiplayer like you would in single player? As it is i seem to be starting with extra techs and units, my first base is unusually large, turned off 'Look First' doesn't seem to have an effect, etc. Is there any way of fiddling with the alphax file or whatever to have it like it would be on SP, as I and my friends I'm playing with prefer it. As change scares us, I guess. Thanks

i think i know what you mean. when playing on TCP/IP your first base will have size 3 and will have some facilities already built.
the only way around is to load a scenario instead of the free game. CMNs can build scenarios for MP, but that's usually for PBEMs.
