SMACX with Wine on Ubuntu

Has anybody had success playing SMAC or SMACX using Wine?

I have tried to get it running, but the CD isn´t recognized.

Once upon a time, I did... not with Wine, but rather Cedega. I had to install it with Wine (installer would crash under Cedega) and play under Cedega (text didn't render properly, if at all, under Wine).

Then I updated to a new version of Ubuntu. SMAC/X never worked again. I ultimately ended up pirating Windows XP (it never connects to the 'net) JUST to play SMAC.

As to the CD problem, have you specified the CD drive under winecfg? There's a tab where drives are listed, and by default, only your ~/.wine C drive is defined.
