  • SMAX: Faction Selection Crashes

I'm trying to get Alien Crossfire running on a Toshiba Satellite running Windows Vista. I've got SMAC running just fine. I've applied the latest patch, forceoldvoxel does equal 1, switched it to run in XP SP2 compatability mode, and have even tried running as an admin. Still, when trying to create a new game, it crashes right after I choose my ruleset (when it should start faction selection).

I can start a game using "Quickstart", which bypasses faction selection. If nobody can think of a way to get the game working properly, is there a way, from outside the program, to tell the game what factions I "most recently" played with (so it can "default" to the setup I actually want)?
    To those who understand,
    I extend my hand.
    To the doubtful I demand,
    Take me as I am.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the game. The same problem came up about a week ago on Civ Fanatics.

This is also what it does when there's a problem with a custom faction...
