The perfect place to land?

I like Jungle best. Then the Manifold for +1 Planet. This allows non FM SE to catch mindworms, which are a cheap and easy way to bulk up on a free early army. And you can catch IoDs at sea, making harvesting sea Unity pods much easier.
If you run FM then the Manifold is almost useless. Then I'd go for Ruins, Uranium Flats, or Pholus Ridge.

I play the pirates alot and love starting near the geothermal shallows with them. If I play any other faction I like starting near monsoon jungle or uranium flats.I got scolded in Bold letters by Iluminatus.
That makes me sad. :(
I can't use smilies in my signature that makes me even more sad. :(

I play the hive a lot, and think that landing close to the jungle is great, but my best game ever was when i landed next to morgan, expanded towards him, and "persuaded" him to help me get to Industrial Automation very quickly. after that everything was in the bag.
In huge maps, I prefer to land where i can spread out in all directions, but on tiny maps i'd rather be up against one of the poles so i can just defend from one side and focus my forces.
Uranium flats with a river is always good to land on as well. I just got SMAX and had some fun with the goodies found in the unity debris field.

The jungle is hands down the best landmark, to the point of being overpowered. Not only is it a very powerful bonus, but it also is the largest landmark in the game, so its benefits can be conveyed to a huge number of bases.
My favorite place to land is a continent small enough to contain about 12-18 bases with reasonable spacing, though I also like playing in an archipeligo. Games where you wind up sharing a huge landmass with 3 or more other players wind up being pretty predictable and tedious, typically involving a sprint to IA then pushing across the land with a huge army of rovers, probes and artillery.
