Second question: have you read thru the FAQ thread thats topped in this forum? There are several situations listed there that sound similar to this, along with solutions.
Also, if the above doesn't fix your problem, then let us know along with everything else you've tried to date. There'll be others along shortly who can probably come up with other solutions as well.

It seems to me that the problem isn't with the game, but rather with the CD or the CD drive. Can you read the SMAX CD from Windows Explorer? If not, can you read other CDs?

As far as I know, ACX has Safedisc version 1 copy protection. Iso format probably will not work.

Agent Larkin,
If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you temporarily remove your crack and try copying the terranx.exe file from the CD to the proper location on your hard drive and see if that fixes the problem.
This was the solution Petek suggested last July.
It would be a great help to us because we can't advocate using a crack on these boards. If you could verify that copying the terranx.exe file from the CD to your hard drive fixes your problem, then we could put your problem and the solution in the FAQ at the top of the list.

Great!
Sorry, it turns out that the problem was that the terranx.exe file was corrupted. Replacing it with an uncorrupted file, whether legal or illegal, fixes the problem.
Now that we have confirmation that it worked, we can put it in the FAQ since the problem has come up a few times.

In order to get it running on my new computer on Vista, I had to get a copy of terranx.exe off my Daughters computer. Once I put the file on my computer it started up just fine. I now have a copy of it, in case I have to install it again in the future.

Petek,
I think LoriTX has confirmed that the terranx.exe file can become corrupt through the installation process and that copying from a working installation or the CD fixes the problem.
