    Just one question, what determines the cost of a technology?

  • #2
    Each tech costs progressively more. The level of the tech doesn't matter. In other words, your third tech costs the same no matter what the tech is. If you trade or steal tech these will eventually count against you for tech cost.

    There is a tech cost formula, but as I recall it is in my old Prima guide, which I don't have access to right now. I'll dig it out when I get home in a week or so if someone else doesn't have it handy.

      Prima Strategy Guide, p. 23:

      DIFF = 0 - 5 (0 = Citizen; 5 = Transcend).
      TECHS = the number of Techs you've already discovered.
      MOSTTECHS = the greatest number of Techs already discovered.
      TURNS = the number of turns that have already passed.
      WORLDSIZE = .6 Tiny; .8 Small; 1 Standard; 1.1 Large; 1.6 Huge.

      Research Cost = [11 + (DIFF * 4) + ((TECHS * 6)/5) - (TURNS/8) - (MOSTTECHS/5)] * TECHS * WORLDSIZE

      If Tech Stagnation is selected, divide TURNS by 12 (rather than by 8) and multiply the final result by 1.5.
