I did not see a reference in this forum specifically to this issue.
I have a Dell E510 Media Center XP SP2 and tried to install SMAC. It consistently died with the error 0Xc0000005 when we tried to run it (it installed OK).
With some trial and error I found that selecting the compatibility setting "Turn off advanced text services for this program" on terran.exe caused the problem to go away.
