Ip connection problem

I have been trying to connect to my girlfriends computer via the tcp/ip option. it worked for awhile but slowly i would stop being able to join her games or her to my games. we are in the same house so use the same router. when i type in the ip address the game will appear, but when i select it it will freeze and after a minuet it will take me back to the main screen.

how can i fix this?

whats another way i can connect to her comp. when i try to direct connect it says i need direct x 5 or higher and i have 10.

Fixed somehow <_< un-installed on both systems then reinstalled and updated both at the same time.
