I was very careful not to pester you. Otherwise, I'm sure you would have bumped the threads I found.

Did you try the right-click menu (is that what you meant by tech screen field)?

I wonder if the reason you can't modify SMAC to allow formers to build monoliths is that if that were possible, then monoliths could be destroyed by terraforming their square.

Suppose you had a scenario where forests were disabled, but you started with a bunch of forests. I bet you would still be able to destroy those forests by terraforming.

      Yes.

Your probably right. I think that there is some hardcoding in place concerning the monoliths that is preventing them from being terraformed. I'll probably give it another more thorough attempt when I get back.

Love to see there's still active and productive players around here!
Will download as soon as I get back home.

I just reinstalled the game after, well, some time.
I've tried the demo of Galactic Civilizations and - I hate to say this since the developers seem to be decent persons and have a refreshing take on the matter of software distribution- I found it so boring that after a week I had to reinstall AC immediately as a compensation (I mean, each research path goes like this: technology, improved technology, super improved technology, super extra improved technology....)

I guess we'll never see another game like AC....

And this is another scenario I need to play.

What is significant though is that this is the 6th anniversary of the date I joined 'Poly (13 Sept 2002). And one of the first MP games I joined had Darsnan at war with the player I replaced.

I have had great fun playing Darsnan's scenarios and playing against him over the years.

So I wanted to posted my 10,000 post in the SMAC/X forum , where I spent most time.

So here it is, with 3 minutes left to achieve Deity on the anniversary of my joining.

Was that MABB? If so that was actually one of the first games I joined as well, taking over for a player named Bella Hella. If I only knew then what I know now about the PsyCons.....

                Congratulations!

Oh, and as far as playing these scenarios are concerned: don't know how much SMAC you've been playing lately, but if you haven't been playing for a while then I would suggest starting with the "Pick yer Poison" scenario first, as it is the easiest of my new generation of scenarios. The hardest of these new scenarios is "Von Neuman's World". FYI in case your looking for a more difficult challenge.

Oh yeah, and if you ever want a rematch on a waterworld (a la "Here there be Pirates"), why I've developed some good units to throw into such an environment. If your ever up for an H2H let me know and we can see how some AIs fair in this aquatic environment.

Here's one -very- interested in the possibilities of more options at sea (be it units, terrain upgrades or whatever).
Oh, and I was just about to download this scenario, but I suppose I'll start with "Pick yer poison" after reading your last post, D ^^

So...I downloaded the scenario, and started to play.
It's been a long time since I've seriously played SMAX, and it showed. The thing is, at start I didn't do too well, but I had time to recover. By mid-game I was doing all right, until the Caretakers dropped 2 Singularity Planet Buster's on my best 4 bases.

Flipping off common sense and knowing I was gonna lose anyway, I built in my other bases something around 6-8 PB's and dropped 'em all on them.

Here's the save. I can't say I'm happy, but it was rather satisfactory.

I see that you never managed to infiltrate any of the AIs: was that because they had too many probes, or you didn't focus on this aspect?

The AIs make me very proud sometimes.

I've come back to this game on several occasions since I originally posted it and tried several different strategies in regards to the Caretaker menace, as well as how to best deal with the Hive/ Believer feud in the south.

So did the AI give you fits with any of the special units I put in the game?

Nope, as you've thoughtfully quoted, I didn't even think about infiltrating them. Bad strategy on my part, altough it is true that I didn't find at least 1 base of each faction in the early game...can't really remember when I managed to do at least that, it was a month ago since I played :P

Oh, and about those units: I do remember some of them giving me a headache, but no real details.

Except for the PB's, of course. that, I'll never forget
Anyway, kudos for the scenario, man. Keep it up!
