While I don't advocate checking the computer's result, I do think your exercise will give you a feel for some tradeoffs.
There are costs associated with forcing a fungal pop (you have to clear the resulting fungus, possibly rebuild an improvement and you may lose some resources in the meantime) and with building a pollution base. These costs affect turn advantage.
Early on, your former time may be better spent in terraforming. Note that UNWORKED improvements are wasted in the short term unless crawled and that forests REDUCE the variable "Terraforming."
While you certainly should force a fungal pop before building tree farms, a fungal pop too early could cost you former time that could be put to better use.
A pollution base is advantageous, but building one too early could cost former time and minerals (building trance/empath units) that could be put to better use.
I believe SMAX has incredible replay value because there is no one best strategy that fits every randomly generated game.
Your understanding of the eco-damage formula may help you find the optimum strategy for a particular game.
