Ok, i got it to work I Just deleted the Firaxis Folder and reinstalled it with the updates. Now, I have a different question. WHy does it need the CD? And how could I get around it?

CD: The game doesn't really "need" the CD if you did a full install. It's a copy protection measure. I believe (but cannot check right now) that the XP/2000 compatibility patch removes the CD requirement. Needless to say, if you still suspect that this update was the cause of your earlier trouble, I'd rather put up with the inconvenience than risk having to do another reinstall.
Finally, have fun with the Pirates! I haven't played SMAX in years. I used to play it a lot during the time when some major bug fixes were only available for SMAX, but because of some balance issues (Cloudbase Academy, for example) and the fact that the new factions are not as much "fleshed out" as the original ones, I have always played classic SMAC in recent years. Maybe, it's time for a change again.Comment
