large map causing game to crash.

hi, when i create a map over the huge size, after maybe 100 turns into the game, i get an error and the program closes.

anyone else get this? i would like to play on a much larger map as i like the games that last for a few weeks/ months at a time.

is there a patch to help stop this? or any advise?

my laptop is more than sufficient to run anything ac can throw at it so its not a memory/performance issue.

There isn't a specific patch that solves problems with large maps, but you do need to have the latest patch(es), found here. Note that if running SMAC, you need to apply (if necessary) both the v4.0 update and the Win 2k/XP update.

Next, are you running into the interceptor crash bug? This bug occurs when either you or your opponent's interceptors scramble. No known fix for that bug.

I also play on maps larger than huge and don't have unusual problems. What size maps are you playing on? You might want to check out this thread, which discusses various issues with large maps. MoNoLiTh reported problems similar to yours and cleared them up by uninstalling old programs.

If none of this helps, please post a save file from right before a crash, along with whatever actions you took that caused the crash. I'd be glad to see if I can reproduce it.

This is in order to patch original SMAC?
What in the case of Planetary Pack, is smac on 4.0 already? So you need only XP update to 5.0?

hey thanks for the help. im going to re-install the game and make sure all updates are installed.

if it happens again, ill come back and post the saved game for you to have a look.
