  • Unable to install AC

I've been unable to install SMAC on my computer (XP SP2). I have tried the following methods:

    -running setup.exe
-running setup.exe from the run menu
-running setup.exe from the command prompt
-copying the cd onto my HD
    -restarting my computer
-acquiring a different copy of the game
    -utilizing the windows compatibility installation

I'm don't have any other ideas, and I was wondering if anyone had any further advice

    Hi Ennui,

Do you get a specific error message when installing? If so, please post it.

Does the installation terminate immediately or part way through?

My post in this thread contains a link to solutions to installation problems, some of which you apparently haven't tried yet.

I was unable to find a solution from the links within your posts, but I appreciate the effort.

When I insert the CD-ROM, autorun.exe intiates, and I'm brought to the installation menu. If I click on the install button, the program immediately stops responding and closes within 5-10 seconds. There are no error messages whatsoever...

Sorry to hear that you didn't solve your problem. I think the most likely cause is some process on your system that's conflicting with the setup program.

Did you try booting into diagnostics mode? That was a suggestion in one of the threads I linked to. It's buried deep, so you might have overlooked it.

In case this suggestion isn't clear, select Run from the START menu, type in msconfig and hit OK. You now should see the System Configuration Utility, with one of the options being Diagnostic Startup.

After rebooting into diagnostics mode, try running setup again.
