    The hardware's fine, none of my other programs/games run flaky, just SMAC/X.

    Is there a SMAX compatibility patch? I installed the SMAC compatibility patch but AFAIK they are two separate executables.

      No, the XP/2000 compatibility patch is only for SMAC.

            Think I found my problem. I went through and uninstalled all the old games and apps I haven't used for awhile and SMAC/X has since stopped crashing and locking up.

            Old games are so *****y. :P
