  • Save and Load

Hello. My name is Darrell01 and I am a save and loader. I'll save and load before attacks, pod popping, probe moves, and end of turns. Even on ironman, I'll save it, restart the game. If you are really devious, you'll have 2 SMAX running at the same time so you can load up the game immediately while the other is restarting. Anyone else have this problem?

I used to play like that, but since I underwent psychiatric treatment, I have been able to play entire Transend games without reloading.

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

Play how you want if its just you.

Persoanlly in single player I find the AI so inept that a few adverse consequences are almost necessary to make the game a challeenge. I don't want to do stuff that makes it easier

Darrel01 - you know, that sounds like a boatload of work. I'm much too lazy.

I will admit to being rather careful about popping pods, though. I go out of my way to make sure I can deal with bad results, and like putting colony pods immediately adjacent to them to ensure a good result (although occasionally a former gets teleported or I get an earthquake). After I have a few Gaian worms pods that are infested with worms are my friend - a source of recruits to subdue those that thwart Planet's will or worms that graciously donate their energy to the greater well being of the Gaian Republic.

Worms are also a reasonably good pod pop for other factions-- The cult would love them but they are also not bad as the Hive or spartans. I figure a morale boost and some cash is pretty much always decent

I don't like it so much if I am in FM with no morale advantages since then you tend to lose a few too many units

What is the effect of having a colony pod immediately adjacent?

If a pod is directly next to a base, it can't be filled with worms. Other dumb stuff can happen, however, like your unit being teleported or an earthquake.

As to being a click n' saver, yeah, I used to play like that a great deal. Nowadays, I will occasionally get annoyed and redo a battle where it's obvious that I should have won but didn't, especially early on, where minor reverses can have far-reach repercussions, but for the most part, there's few setback the AI can deliver that you can't circumvent.

That said, I did get utterly torn asunder yesterday by a very early Yang rush, playing as my beloved Morganites. I was planted very deep in some heavily fungus-ridden territory, and I foolishly delayed weapon research the moment I spotted Yang on my borders, then compounded my error by refusing to bribe him to let me live. That's what overconfidence will do to you.

CEO Aaron - Hehehe - a recent SMAniac Mod game as Yang my Morgan neighbor did exactly what you did. His bright, shining cities made a very nice addition to my People's Paradise. He was even thoughtful enough to build me the Weather Paradigm at Morgan Industries. Morgan was a very dutiful vassal and provided a good amount of helpful energy and development-based of technology.

As to pod popping, any faction can benefit from a worm pod. Having a huge infestation (with 8 or so worms) can try the ability of any faction - except Gaians or Cult. Two or so well place worms prevent meaningful movement by the popped worms, and they can be harvested at your leisure. Best yet, the worms ignore the Gaian worms - which will not happen for conventional units. Another faction might have to spend lots of time with empath rovers to effectively deal with the problem. Best yet, the worms are support free in fungus. Very handy.

                      .
I never do the reload-- If I almost t get crushed early, that just adds a bit to the challenge. Beisdes, if you are weak early you can almost always to get friendly AI to give you a bunch of stuff.

If I "Save and Reload", I think of it as simply another way to mod the game. For example, in my mod, the pods don't spawn quakes, transport units, etc.

Yeah, I save & reload to "mod" the game so it doesn't do earthquakes and fungus growths. I've already altered the files so that raise/lower is prohibitively expensive.
