I think you can change the graphics and sound files for facilities/secret projects and how terrain looks, but I want to know is if you can change the models, like armor chasis etc. These are either hidden, or those other nonpicture files. Is there a way to locate and edit these things?

They are caviar files (cvr). I imagine they can be edited via a caviar editor, but I have never heard of someone actually doing this.
