I reckon Smac/x is the best game out there, its got a great story line, balanced game play, and a well researched future tech tree, and lots of replay ability.
But up unstill now I've only been able to play it by restarting my computer every 10-30 minutes, which is ruining the game, and probably my computer.
I have a problem with alpha centauri and alien crossfire randomly(it seems) freezing or crashing to desktop. (smax is worse)
I've been through almost all the support forums and tried everything I've found.
So if anyone could think of anything else at all, that would be great!
Or if someone with a similar problem fixed it, with a certain combination of fixes, I would like to hear about it.
Thanks, Michael
Here are my specs, and what I've tried to fix it:
Xp pro ver2002 service pack 2
1.33Ghz duron
224 mb RAM (and lots of virtual ram)
Asus mother board with onboard nvidia GeForce2
Genius Scrolls mouse
*Reinstalling as detailed on: http://smac.2be.cc/stuff01.html
*The smac at v1.1 v4.0 and winupdatecompatibility. Also smax at 2.0.
*Changing the ini file in these ways:
forcevoxeloldalgorith=1
eax=0
Direct3d=0
ds3d=0
windows filebox=1
*Also diferent compatibility settings (including disabling text servces)
*Different reolutions and bits etc
*Disabling sound(by renaming the dll) and turning off graphics acceleration
*Different mods
*I have also updated my mouse, graphics, and sound drivers. And made sure my mouse software isn’t running.
*tried running it in safemode
I have tried all these with alien crossfire too, including patching
