  • Finished!!

Well after 4 years, 3 months & 22 or so days, the Alien Waterworld PBEM is complete.

The game started on the 20-03-2002 at 17:08.

(None of the original starting players completed the game!)

Thanks to Googlie who originally CMNed the game & aquatized the factions & to my opponants & partners in the game.

Thread is here for anyone interested.

(So if I start another game now I could be finished in November 2010?)

How many time did you change players?

It was quite an enjoyable game. I came in as a replacement for mongoose and I believe most players were substituted only once.

In the last several months the game was actually very quick through all but one of the players (who was extremely slow). Once it was down to 3 players , it actually was probably the fastest game going

Can you post the turns that are something like final, 10+20 years pre ending with some of passwords (or even just one of somebody whos infiltrated the others) so we can have a look at this game since it sounds interesting reading through all those nukes and "bees"

Laz-- when I get home I'll look at posting turns fom 25 years out with say 5 ear intervals . Since the faction I inherited had infiltration on everyone , that should show what's going on.

The interesting part from my point of view was that getting nuked was a mere inconvenience. I actually probestole herc's second nuke but never say any reason to use it. I believe I eventually disbanded it toward a special project

The diplomacy part was interesting as well as even before I joined my factioon was subsidizing the two weakest factions in their wars with the herc and hobbes alliance. I thought every turn this delayed herc and hobbes was money well spent.

The only thing that really surprised me was that hobbes did not try fo an earlier detente with darsnan so that hobbes and herc could try to deal with my faction. The offer was made later to Darsnan when the governor election was called but by then I had provided so much support to Darsnan that he would be unlikely to switch sides. I am just thinking that all those missiles and units expended on Darsnan would have been better employed against me. I don't know if it would have changed the final result much since mongoose had built an awesomely strong faction, but it would be worth a try

4 years! Is that a record of some kind? I think the longest continuous PBEM I was in was shy of a year at a turn-a-day rate (not counting my currently stalled PBEM).

              Congrats!

So, is there any chance of a summary for those of us who like to sometimes live vicariously through the exploits of others? The link seemed to be primarily saber rattling (not that there is anything wrong with that, mind you) but less raw meat.

I came in too late to be too descriptive about anything but I know it was a 5 player game with everyone playing aquatized versions of the factions. By the time I joined both AI were dead, my faction was one or two turns into a war with hercules while hobbes was very close to eliminating generaltacticus

I have posted turns at approximately 5 year intervals for the last 25 years I was involved.

The password is energy and my faction did have infiltration on everyone

Heh makes a change to see pockets of fairly weak bases in the sea rather then the usual mass swathes of land gobbled up by players ICSing. The ec and lab income of your faction was amazing, congrats to mongoose for setting that up. Nice swift taking out of all other players using the faction

yah-- when I took over I felt there was already a winning advantage and partially expected the other 4 to try to gang tackle me.

It was pretty standard tactics with numerical superiority but this game did reinforce to me how much easier it is to take a seabase than a landbase. Seabases are so easy to either bombard or direct attack with shipping or even an amphibious unit in a transport.

I took over a Morgan faction that took quite a bit of adjusting. I'm not a great Morgan player either.

My biggest problem was that Darsnan was much harder to kill than I'd hoped. Distance was a problem--supply lines were hard to maintain. I probably jumped in a little to quickly as well. He became impossible to eradicate once Flubber started to feed him units through the backdoor.

I didn't ask for detente before the election simply because I didn't want to--kind of a role-playing thing. Not tactically the most advantageous but it didn't seem right. If I'd been able to hit Flubber while Hercules was still strong it may have been a different game.

The bees made a huge difference. I had no counter to them--I could kill them with missiles but they could take both land & sea bases almost at will.
