Upgrading your formers and garrisons to clean once you get the opportunity frees up a lot of minerals for other production.

Also, one of the handiest units designs can be the clean, police (NLM) garrison units.

This might seem a little od, but if you are playing with the Hive and starts to get some real big bases, I must say that clean troops are guit unnecessary. I am not playing MP for the moment, so I can't say if it is necessary in MP. But in SP I am happy producing a lot of troops with more or less no upkeep because large bases and +3 support. I have often tought that a tank sitting in idle is wasted so my troops has often not a really long life

When it comes to crawlers: Crawlers used in the right way destroyes the game. One of the best mods out there has actuly removed crawlers to bost the AI. So it is simple as this if you are beating the AI on the highest level (which I can't spell ) don't use more crawlers it wont be fun.

As some people already has pointed out crawlers just sitting around doing nothing is quit a waste to produce. BUT if you have crawlers sitting around you could use them to gain crawl for food so that you can go for more specialist. That is really useful if you are playing a build style Hive. If you are playing as a builder hive (police stat/planned/wealth or something) your lack of income means that some extra science points is really nice.

Based on feedback that I got, I went back & re-thought the whole crawler stockpile idea. I probably should have realized that there's a reason none of the vets were discussing this strategy. (Doh!) Now that I have a better understanding of support, it's time to go back & re-evaluate. Thanks again for the feedback.

I tend not to put clean on choppers and planes for the simple reason that those things die quickly so that the added cost is not worthwhile and besides often like to use both ability slots for other things

I always wondered why scenarios were next to impossible for me even though I could win SP on transcend with scores of 500%+

Because people make them so much harder--pretty typical are ones where the AIs are given food and minerals from satellites--they can be tough

One of the easier ones was one where they gave the AI a high interest rate on energy it held. Soon the AI thousands of credits which humans could easily steal due to the AIs inability to do effective probe defense.

Give a human THOUSANDS of credits and its bye-bye to the AI

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.
