I think the only real use of the do or die option is if you're trying to get the fastest possible conquest victory, otherwise, I'd leave it on. It makes the game more fun.
Actually, I'm pretty sure it'[s controlled by the date, any time you take an enemy's last base past 2150 or 2200 (I think it's 220 but I'm not sure) they are eradicated. Either way, an AI faction restarting is not usually going to do much for the rest of the game

Look in the FAQ, particularly to the link-- I don't know taht anyone has failed to get the game working if they did everything in there.

The FAQ is topped which mean that almost no one actually reads it

            Have you guys seen domai.com?

For a thread about SMAC's ties to the adult community, that site fits right in.

Wow. "Domai" must mean something in Macedonian or something.

Yes. All that stuff about sweating, grunting, clanging steel, rhythmic pistons, and organic superlubricant must have spawned an entirely new following.

I whipped a few factions into utter submission, but not Deidre, Santiago or Roz. Only Svensgaard and Zakharov. So the erotic undertones were quite lost...

Nah, Domai's only dirty because he's covered in grime all day from all that hard work at the factory.

Do I ever beat other factions into submission? I didn't know there was any other way!

Seriously, I go out of my way to make sure all the factions survive....under my thumb, of course. Not out of any D/s fantasy mind you, but because they are useful. You still make trade from a submisive, even if they only have one pissant city. I also like to rid myself of unwanted bases by handing them over to an submisive ally instead of starving them out. And perhaps best of all, using a militarily strong submisive to occupy the attention of a faction you are not ready to deal with. When you sick Miriam on a faction that is giving you trouble, it gives you plenty of time to be a proper builder.

Submisive factions are great. Beat'em like a rented mule, then ride'em like a face-down sled.

This is why i always crack up when mods close posts in other forums because it is a family friendly site

BTW there are a number of R rated threads already in fiction, and on some other sites too, if you want

i find submissives good for trade income myself. hand over the credit cards and we hand over the submissives
if you want to stop terrorism; stop participating in it

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''

There is nothing explicit here though.

I always return all conquered bases (except if some house SPs) to the submissive faction. They are better off with them and make a nice trading partner. And they don't fit in my base placement grid.
