  • Weird AC bug

I got this game a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it. There is a small yet very annoying bug though. Most of the time when I start the game, if I click on the menu button, it pops up very quickly and then disappears again almost instantly. Also, the "monument" and interlude screens flash only briefly on my screen before going back to the main game. I also cannot choose a unit and "drag" it to a destination I want it to go to far away.

Sometimes when I start the game this will randomly NOT happen, and everything works fine. I'm playing on XP, have all the patches, have edited the Voxel and EAX lines in the .ini and besides this it plays fine. I have tried closing out all other applications in the background as well as terminating non-essential processes but that doesn't seem to work either. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? It doesn't make the game unplayable but it sure is annoying.

My guess is that because this is not happening consistently, that this is not a setting issue, nor is it a bad install. One thing that spurred random issues in my machine was that Windows was not reallocating RAM after closing out a program, and that these issue cropped up after my machine had been on for a while. My suggestion would be to try restarting your machine, start up SMAC immediately, and see if that clears up the issues.

I agree with Darsnan that your problem probably is not specifically with SMAC.

The first idea that occurred to me is that your keyboard is at fault. Are any keys or buttons broken, or pushed in? Do you have another keyboard? If so, try it. Another thought is to look at the settings in Control Panel/Keyboard.

I messed around with my hardware settings, and it wasn't the keyboard. But, after I disabled the touchpad on my laptop (which I never use anyways) the problem stopped. Cool, thanks for the suggestions
