I'm trying to set up SMAC for multiplayer on two computers on a LAN. It works fine on one of them, an older pentium 2, but not on the other, a pentium 4. Both are running win2k.
When I start the game on the troubled one, a dialogue of some sort comes up. The only thing that shows is the outlines of two buttons; the rest is black, so I don't know what it says. Pressing the left button starts the game, at which point no multiplayer modes are available. I've tried installing the 4.0 patch, after which it informed me on starting that my cpu is unsupported and quit. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and tried the alternate color palette patch in hopes of being able to read the dialogue, but it had no effect.
Any idea about what's wrong? I'd sure appreciate any help.
