  • Is there an editor for saved SMAC games?

I would like to save a game and change factions, to test the ability of different factions to deal with a given situation.

Does anyone know of an editor that can do this?

Can you be more specific about the circumstances involved? Essentially when are you wanting to save the game (i.e. what MY?), is the Faction you are playing already present elsewhere in the game, etc.?

If I understand you correctly you want to start 2 or more Factions from the same location at a given Mission Year in the game. I'm not sure how valid this would be as different Factions would have different initial tech beelines (a variable) as well as fair differently under the initial settings (i.e. Gaians having Cent Eco wouldn't be as much of a benefit under a n on-standard start).

Anyways, these are my initial thoughts on the subject. If you can give more details as to how you want to set this up, I can see if this can be done via the Scenario Designer.

I would like to save a game situation at the very beginning, before a single move has been played. And then play from that position using various factions to see how they fare from that starting position.

You can achieve this with the scenario editor, by "reloading" a particular faction with a different faction file.
