  • No Videos with Alien Crossfire?

Hello everyone, I seem to be a having a slight problem with alien crossfire. Whenever I complete a new wonder I do not receive a popup for any of the videos, even for the vanilla AC wonders (like Supercollider, etc). Does it require the Alien Crossfire disc to see them? I have the complete install for Alpha Centauri and can see the videos when I play AC w/out the CD just fine.

Any help? Thanks in advance everyone

Oh and just one more question, does Alien Crossfire even have videos for the new wonders?

SMACX has videos for the new wonders. Perhaps your ingame configuration doesn't allow it?

Since the videos run in SMAC, but not in SMAX, you probably have Secret Project Movies checked in Audio/Visual Preferences. However, you might want to fire up SMAX and check this, just to be certain.

Does inserting the SMAX CD solve the problem?

Are you running the most recent SMAX patch? (version 2.0)

If none of this helps, I suggest that you reinstall SMAX from scratch.

Yes. They are in the movies subfolder, along with all the other movies.

Dumb question but did you check to ensure that the "Secret Project Movies" button is selected in order to play them?
In case you need to check this use the following sequence:

        Menu
        Game
        Preferences
        Audio/ Visual Preferences
Ensure that "Secret Project Movies" is checked in order to play the movies

Other than that I don't know why the movies aren't playing.

one other thing to check, there should be an executable in the movies folder, called playuv15, that plays the movies outside of smac/x. try to play the movies with that outside of smac if the problem isn't with the settings.

Thanks for the replies, I did pull up the options menu and I am running it with the videos tab checked...

The way I bought the game was through a website called classic pc games (or something like that) that let me pay to download it. Otherwise, I would have spent upwards of $80-100+ for it off of Amazon or Ebay! So I guess now, I'm a little concerned about having the movie files

When I open the Sid Meiers AX folder and look in the "movies" section, I only have one file called "playuv15.exe." Is this correct? I have that same file in my AC movies folder, but it's also accompanied by the many wve files that go with it. So maybe download that I bought didn't come with them? I sure hope it did, otherwise I'm going to be a little upset...

I'm going to make another CD for SMAX and run it off of there, maybe that will let it call up the correct files. I'll post here how that works out

My SMAX folder sits at 206 MB, does that sound right? Thanks again for all your help guys

This doesn't sound right to me. Are you saying that you loaded SMAX into a different subdirectory from your SMAC loading? If so this is your problem, as SMAX should've been loaded into the same subdirectory, typically as follows:

              C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

And all the movies (for SMAC and SMAX) are in the "movies" subdirectory from there

move those wve files into your smax folder. imgoing out on a limb here and saying that you didnt install smax off a cd and thus will still miss out on some expansion movies...

Spectator: you bought an illegal version of smacx without the movies.

Don't think Firaxis or EA got any money from your purchase, it's all in the pockets of the website you bought from (and they didn't have to pay anything for it).

Well dang, I guess it's back to the drawing board for buying a copy of this game under $100 Thanks again everyone!

Oh yes there is! That would be a trojan-infected rip.

You could just put that under the heading of 'bad', like 'incomplete' fits in that category.
