    I think it's knowledge.
I switch to knowledge as soon as it is available, as university. often when mounting an attack i want morale+ but dislike power,so i will switch to that. probe is a useless SE anyway(this is where everyone chimes in on how probe is important) and the 20%+ to research ise quite useful i find. after i beeline to SuperTensile i usualy beeline for the tech that gives cybernetic for a +40% boost. although thats pretty much late-game planning only.

in cgn21 i am PS\planned\knowledge, as hive. mainly so my air units get a 25% boost than anything(must have lost a hundred already-10-20 a turn kirov? more than that? i think i had 20 wins, 40+ losses last time i opened it and that seems pretty standard)

I use wealth as a means of reaching +2 economy without running Free Market, via golden ages. That's why I love Lal. The industry bonus is also real nice, especially combined with planned economy (the problem with using those two together is that Planned's inefficency wastes any surplus you may get from Wealth).

Regarding +2 economy via golden ages, I frequently find myself doing this: I raise psych output to a insanely high setting (sometimes even 50%) just to get the golden ages, then as I have +1 energy per square I drop it to the minimum necessary. This would be because golden ages are not checked real time, but at the beggining of the turn. Am I doing well?

Make sure though the energy gained by the extra SE Economy is bigger than the energy lost by psych. This is easy for the peacekeepers, but for other factions you might be actually losing energy.
