  • Rush Buying Question

Is there ever any reason to fully rush buy anything, rather than just paying enough so that the base's mineral production will finish it up?

For example, if I've just founded a base, and want a former for the base immediately, I can pay 25 energy and completely fill the production box, while if I pay 20 energy, it leaves it with 2 minerals left, which are provided by the base. Net result - the formers still get built next turn, and I save 5 energy. So, why would I NOT do this?

The short answer is that by paying more than is necessary, you can carry over the excess and apply it to rushing the next build.

There have been several threads about this matter with more detailed information. Here are two links:

I think there are other threads, but I couldn't find them right away.

Yes, it is for carrying over the minerals that can be forwarded. typically 10, but this value can be changed in alphax.txt for scenarios.

Note, that the last minerals cost 2 energy, those to fully buy them. While these at the begining and especially below that mentioned limit of 10 are more expensive. So former costing 20 minerals:

      5 minerals - 4 EC
      10 minerals - 3 EC
      5 minerals - 2 EC

facilities are different, though, just 2 EC/mineral above 10.

having accumulated 2 minerals for a former (for example) you need 18.
But it is below 10 limit, so:
cost = (52)*2 = 104 (more or less, there may be difference of 1 EC
But when you for example carry over 10 minerals and not 2, coz your total production is 10 minerals/turn, then:
      cost = (5*2+5*3) = 25 (to full buy it)

Effectively hurrying to achieve full 10 minerals carry over is the best, because you already have done minerals where they are the most expensive.
In this example, when having 10 minerals production in a base you may manufacture each turn a 20-mineral-cost former for just additional 25 EC/turn. You effectively pay only 2.5 EC/mineral.

When production is over 10 minerals, e.g. 12 min/turn, they I usually hurry only to the number 2 less than fully filled minerals, since only 10 = (12-2) can be forwarded. Then I do partial hurry, for 4 EC less (last minerals cost 2 EC each.) It needs a bit skill to calculate these partial buys. More difficult for units, but for facilities quite easy.

Also, if you fear that your bases production may be lowered during the other factions turns (Enemy units landing in your territory, or bombardment from the coast or a spore launcher for example) then it is necessary to rush to completion. Otherwise, if you only partially buy something, then it may not be completed due to a reduction in mineral output you have no control over.

Its worth noting that you can hurry something completely and it will still be constructed during drone riots. It is also worth noting that during starvation, even something with 0 turns to go won't be finished.

To add, you can't rush SP's during riots and about starvation it means that you won't build anything if the base is actually losing population. If it loses only food from the food box then it's no problem (from the construction standpoint)

Someone, sometime, in a galaxy far away, produced a rush table...

I remember also that somebody prepared a special version of script.txt, where everytime you wanted to rushbuild sth this table would show up... Not something very important, but might come in handy from time to time. Do you happen to have a copy of that?

Just found it. Backup your script.txt and replace it with this one. Whenever you choose "partial payment" you should see the rush table.

For simplicity, say one energy credit pays for one mineral, and you need 50 more minerals. Now, if you hurried right now, at these rates, it would require 50 energy credits. However, doing this pays for all fifty minerals, and pushes the minerals produced that turn towards the next thing. So if your base produced 10 minerals per turn, you could rush forty of the minerals, then the the next turn you would still have production complete.
actually if it has 10 mins\turn,you can spend 30 EC and get it.(i use this all the time) besides that,if you rush a queue of buildings, you dont get the stockpile energy bug advantage. of course, you cant insta rush the next turn either, but you can rush at another base instead and keep up faster long term production
