Are you stating that there is spare time on that pc to do anything else than SMAC ????

Maybe you should fight harder for your right to play SMAC/X
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Look on it from the bright side: if the mod team here has success you can play SMAC on Civ4 somewhere next year.

Then your husband will be in trouble.

Luckly our PCs are in the same room and networked together. So if he takes over my computer I will just pull my saved game over to his and play on his, then save it back on my computer.

Why couldn't he upgrade *his* computer then and leave yours alone?

Although Civ doesn't traditionally appeal to a female audience, I think SMAC does well in its balance of female and male leaders. Its just a shame that my playstyle makes all of them my natural enemies

I'd like to add my own thanks here. I have recently upgraded my system from Windows 98 to Windows XP.

Since then, I have several times wondered whether "downgraded" would be a more accurate description of the change.

However, thanks to the guidance on this forum, I have persuaded the new system to run SMAC/X.

Well I do play mostly the Women Factions, occaisonaly one of the others.

My Favorites are Gaian, Believers and once in a while the Female Alien(just for fun)! I can win on the Highest level, but mostly play one step lower! I have won on all the victory conditions, but usualy go for Transendence or Conquor. My latest goal for myself is winning all victory conditions on Huge Map mostly Water. That is a tough one for the Gaian or the Believer factions.

I think Civ is an OK game and occaisionaly play it, but I dont find it as intersting as SMAC! My husband and I have been known to load up a game of SMAC on our computers and play against each other all weekend long. (all our children are grown so have plenty of free time)

As for upgrading my computer instead of his......his is so old it will not take the new motherboard!!!! LOL!! I did kick him off my computer last night......SMAC runs really fast now on my computer!!

Any way I am hoping for a Lap Top for Christmas....so I can play my games anywhere!!!

Yes I am addicted to this GAME!! It is the most played game in the house. When they released the game in the "Laptop Collection" I went out and bought another copy just as a backup as the one I have was looking a little scratched and I didnt want to take any chances!!!!

I am looking forward to the MOD for Civ 4!!!! I do lurk alot on this board and have learned alot just reading it!!!!

                      Of course.

I then set up Alpha Centauri.ini with the recommended values from one of the threads here.

At this point, I could run Alpha Centauri, but not Alien Crossfire.

The final tweak the game needed was to run terranx.exe with Windows 2000 compatibility.

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I think its all in how you play some factions. Everyone plays them differently. I find the Believers a good challange!! And after playing the game for so many years you have to think up new ways to challange yourself, to keep the game fresh!

Women gamers... I'm officially jealous of your hubby...

My mom loved playing Lode Runner. She just didn't get into Civ when it came out, though she liked the idea of building things in the cities instead of having a pure conquest game.

I would say I am more of a Builder in most games, when playing a single player game. When I play I will usualy only start a war if someone is in my way or really bothering me. Unless that is one of the conditons I am going for from the start of the game. But I can be a good Enemy in a multiplayer game!
My Husband likes to play University.......way to easy to take him out!!
