How hard is it to find the PC version of SMAX?

If none of this helps, you could try uninstalling SMAC and SMAX. Then reinstall in this order:

* Install SMAC.

* Play a new game with 2 or 3 turns (to create Alpha Centauri.ini).

* Install the SMAC win 2k/XP compatibility update.

* Install SMAX.

* Install SMAX patch v2.0.

still not working. and the Autorun does work.

Just a quick question, I did do a Complete install on both SMAC and SMAX, would this effect my problem in anyway?

I don't think this is causing your problem. It may be a copy protection issue. In your main Alpha Centauri folder, do you have a file named terranx.icd? Is there anything else about your system that could be conflicting with the copy protection (such as Alcohol 120 or daemon tools)?

Yes I do have that file, and I don't belive I have any tools that could be conflicting with the copyright protection, unless there are copyright protections that some of my games have.

SMAX isnt recent enough to have black\white listing of such programs afaik,although the cd could have been updated(?). and i can verify those programs do not mess it up,from experiance.

Well, at this point the only other thing I can think of is that the disc is bad, except that you were able to install the game from it.

Does the disc have any marks or scratches? Is it unusual in any other way?

I have a game that has a very similar problem. It installed fine, but then complained the cd wasn't in the drive upon playing, even though it was in the drive. The only solution I found was to apply a no-cd patch, and it sounds like you may have to do the same here.

the SMAX disc seems to be ok, and I did a Complete install so I don't even need the discs in the drive to play the game, and were could I find this no-cd patch? it seems like it might be a solution.

Googlie used to have it on his website, but I can't see it anymore so he I think he's taken it off. I'm sure he'll still have it though, so PM him, and ask him for a link, or send him your email adress and ask him to mail it to you.
