Anyone know how I can keep my blood truces from autorenewing in Alpha Centauri? I want to open up war, I've got all my troops in place.

    - Get caught probing the targeted enemy

    - run a social engineering setting that is opposite of what the targeted enemy likes

    - ruin your reputation elsewhere

    - build a huge lead in the powergraph

    - form an alliance with their hated enemy

    - keep calling them (annoys the heck out of the AI!)

I want to preserve my reputation, that's the thing. Is there any other way I can let the truce end and go back to war later?

Probe actions are the best for preserving reputation and the most reliable.

demand withdrawal of their units from your territory, even knowing they have none (or especially then...)

actually I do not know if that damages your reputation...

Don't whine, just attack them. It really doesn't matter.

Actually, the renewing of the truce is somewhat misleading. It seems that whenever you converse with someone you are truced with, and don't change diplomatic status, the truce is "renewed" despite it never having ended. I can't recall seeing a truce degrade into an informal truce, or a status where you can attack without penalty.

I think the only case of a truce degrading to informal truce is if/when a faction is wiped out and restarts. They are then considered 'new' to everyone. For practical purposes I don't think there's any difference between informal truces and truces so far as damaging your rep goes, but it could be that informal truces only knock off half the rep....I can't remember!

If a truce is not renewed, it is then just simple declaration of vendetta, as I understand. I had often in singleplayer cases when I refused to obey AI demands and I was right away in the state of vendetta.

Demand withdrawal REPEATEDLY and they usually declare the war. The benefit is that you can do this again and again even if they won't answer your diplomatic calls and it requires no preparation.

Usually I don't care what my rep happens to be with the AI. Half the fun is licking the asses of all 6 AI even while they are all ganged up on me
