Can't make alien colony units with drop pods - game crashes.

I'm playing the guardians, and any time I try to create a colony unit with drop pods, the game crashes. All other units can be given drop pods, and human factions can create colony drop pods.

I believe I've got all the latest patches installed (SMAC 4/SMAX 2/ XP patch) Any idea on how to fix this?

Not a definitive solution, but anyways: have you tried with different chassis?

Yeah, different chassis work just fine, but at a significant cost increase (50 -> 140 to move up to a speeder chassis)
