Repair Bay ability

Probably most of the players consider the repair bay ability useless.

I found so far 2 uses of it. Very specific, but repair facility in fact does something. ... Nope, one of them is not occupying an ability slot in alpha/x.txt

Any observations of yours?

What does it actually do?

One thing about repair ability that works is that if you make a land transport equipped in it, the loaded unit will heal faster on rocky terrain. I found it like a year ago or something.

I think, I will recheck it now too. Possibly try to find more details. It is not quite very useful, but in some cases you might want to keep something like that on your rocky tiles.

Are you sure it didn't healed faster because you had Xenoempathy Dome and ended your turn on a fungus square?

Well, I did a fast check, and you are right. There was something I did not notice.
Repair does not work that way after all. Again, it's disappointing.
So there remains the other use of it.

Instead of simply mentioning there are uses, you better state them Mart. I don't have a clue what you're hinting at.

I was hoping for information from other people, that they would find while not be influenced by some stuff I would write.

The other use, that I think should work ok, is using it as a "stopper" for additional abilities that can be inserted into pre-defined units in alphax.txt
As you know, a unit there can have more than 2 abilities.
However you can reverse-engineer only 2 of them and those from the "end" side starting from Algorithmic Enhancement.
Any ability on the other side may be thus blocked by Repair Bay.
Useful, if for example I wish to go around some game restrictions using some abilities in pre-defined units, but I do not wish to give a player possibility to reverse-engineer it at the time of this unit being available.
Repair Bay is good here, simply coz it does not work.

Well, another use may be this nice looking decoration of a cross on the transport bay equipment.

Well, you never know.
It might be possible still to get it work:

- Someone finally finds something that all others overlooked so far.
- Firaxis digs into the exe and makes a patch
- Hackers dig int the exe and make a patch

since this hanst happened for the probe rollover bug I doubt this will happen here

We need the source code released
