  • Taking the bases over

First of all, a forum newbie here, hi all.
I searched but I didn't find a topic that would adress this question:

Up until today I used to just annihilate bases I took, if they didn't fit my plan for maximum resources usage. But today I noticed that three Yang's bases turned to me (Santiago) after I kicked him out in the escape pod. Later on, I've fought him again, and this time his bases (previously UN) didn't transfer.

So, is there a way to "domesticate" a taken base, or is it (as I suspect) automated after you kick the faction out?

    Oftopic:
This board rules. I didn't use neither the crawling minerals, nor colony pods for base anihilation.... but I'm definitely giving them a shot next time.

First time I hear that a escape pod lifts off before the last base of a faction is conquered. Are you sure that when you took Yangs' fourth last base you saw the escape pod event happen and that his 3 other bases transfered to you?

I think with 'turned to me' he means the base graphics change to Spartan.

        Hi Z-man, welcome!

Usually, a taken base is considered "domesticated" when the last captured-base-drone (see "advanced concepts" in the datalinks for details) has disappeared. Only when this has happened will the base assume your faction's graphics and I think that irrespective of drone unrest some time has to pass in any event.

Please tell us for how long you had held the bases that "turned to you" after Yang's escape. If you captured them decades ago, it may just be a coincidence. If you took them only a couple of turns earlier, it would mean that the leader's escape triggers an automatic assimilation of his lost bases to the occupying faction. (Imagine a Spartan propaganda movie showing the former Hive citizens how their glorious leader deserted them and driving home the message that Santiago is incapable of such cowardice.)

I'd not noticed this before, but I'm not much of a conqueror anyway. Next time I play, I will pay attention to it.

        Regards,

Yeah, I meant the ownership switch.
I did manage to dig up a thread on ownership change, and it says it's 50 turns.

I'm not sure that 50 turns passed, but it could be. It was quite early so I gave less notice to passing of turns, so it seemed that kicking Yang out did the switch.

I'll try to dig up the savegame, although I'm not sure I still have it. I'm prone to random restarts of games, mainly enjoying the terraforming and location picking in the start.

I'll try to do it again, and post the info back.
FWIW, I played it on the second lowest diff level, though I doubt it had any effect.
