  • optimum placement of echelon mirrors

im looking at how to get the most energy per 21 tiles or so. this is with crawlers but somewhat cramped conditions- energy parks a long ways away are out of the question. boreholes cant be accessed period(yeah this sounds rigged ) im assuming ideal situations i realize, as i would need to build around rocky tiles but im just looking for a ideal flat map answer...

i have 2 models in the attached jpeg. seems like the city in no2 gets the most(70?) compared to 40? in the no1. i couldnt find detailed talk on this subject however. im positive there must be a thread somewhere overflowing with juicy terraforming strats... the echelons themselves give 1? but im assuming the player has crawled them for nuts.

Is the red dot marking one of your bases?

I thought that the optimum Echy Mirror/solar panel was

        0X0X0
        X0X0X
        0X0X0
        X0X0X

Where X is the mirror and 0 is the solar panel.

            red dot base
            red line base radois
            black echelon
            blue solar

each solar in fig. 1. get 1+4 but in fig. 2. has 1+6. seems like fig. 2. is better?

I think mine needs a certain minimum size before its more profitable though. It would probably help if you built the base upon a pre-formed eschelon mirror, but that scheme was made for energy parks.

Don't ask me to explain why its best, I just copied it from a previous thread on this subject.

The best production is probably food supporting specialists, depending on your tech level. Any tile in the game can produce 6 nutrients (farm / condensor / soil enricher). Those 6 nutrients can support 3 specialists (crawl the nutrients) before satellites and 6 specialists afterwards. Assuming that you are using engineers, each one produces 5 energy equivalents (actually better than energy in that none is lost to inefficiency), so the grand total per tile is 15 energy before satellites and 30 after.

On an alternate note, in order to try and help the AI's, why I tried to place an Echelon Mirror under an AI base: kept crashing the game. FYI to other CMN's who may read this.

If a human player places a base on top of an Echelon Mirror, do the adjecent sensors still get +1 energy?

Yes, assuming you place solar panels in the adjoining bases. Base square production is unaffected, however.

There are 3 types of terraforming that aren't obliterated by base foundation:

                          Sensor Beacon
                          Eschelon Mirror
                          Condenser

Of the three, the Sensor beacon is far and away my favorite. I'm not a big fan of solar panels for energy generation at any rate, favoring boreholes, forests and condenser-farms as my terraforming choices. The utility of a 25% defensive bonus which can't be removed without uprooting my base defenders is just TOO useful.
