Need help, 'invalid CPU' error

Got the itch to play SMAC after a long time. My PC is window XP, with a current generation Pentium 4 (Pentium 4 540 I think, might be 530). Everything installed ok, and I installed the 4.0 patch as well. When I try to run the game, I get an error message 'Your CPU is not supported. There may be some errors' With an OK/Cancel box. I click OK, and it crashes out back to desktop. I tried installing hte XP patch and got the same error. Suggestions?

Go into the alpha centauri.ini file, and change the algorithmns line to 1 instead of 0.
