  • The Most Feared Unit in the Hands of the AI's?

So I've been playing around recently with introducing various "new" units into the base set of available units the AI's can then build. One unit has recently caught my attention (I won't say how), which is a Probe Cruiser Sub with AA, available with Doc:Init. Essentially what happens is that the AI's will definately build these units upon discovery of Doc: Init, and their immediate benefit is that the AI's can then use these units in sneak attacks against naval units of other hostile Factions. The added benefit for the AI's is that by the time Doc: Air rolls around the AI's have many of these hard to detect subs in strategically placed positions all over the map, where they can then use their AA capability to MC your air units!
Also, using the same theme above of introducing "The Solution" before the need arises, why I have also had some successes with making a Drop Missile SAM units available with SFF: the AI's will then have at least some defenses against an aerial onslaught once it begins!
So, what are your opinons on what would be "The Most Feared Unit" in the hands of the AI's?

Shock and Horror! Probe-steal your air units with AA?...

I never would have thought to even 'try' that...I love the very idea...

Me, the scariest AI unit was the Chopper Sub Carrier...It's like a submerged hornet's nest...

The rules in the base game prohibit the building of such a unit as I described above, so this is probably a good reason as to why it was never even an option for you.
However, in a modified game why the unit I described above, as well as many others, can be made available to both the AI's as well as human players.....

A Sub Carrier would be a formidable weapon in the hands of the AI if it were capable of using such a tool. However, almost exclusively, I have never seen the AI use any carrier, at all, even when I gave this capability to them at the outset of a game.
You speak from experience: can you post your saves here for me and others to review, to see how the AI(s) were induced into building and utilizing such units?

Well, I can tell you, as this was a while back...But, from what I remember, I was playing the Hive and fighting a two front war with the Spartans and the Believers...Yes, I likes Immunity to Inefficiency, oh yes...

Anyways, I was on the verge of completing the CBA and next thing I know, I've got Fusion Choppers coming in and smacking around my formers and crawlers...Took out a chunk of them before they just flew around and buzzed my cities...

Never took them out of range of their carrier...Not real smart, no suicide tactics for them...I mean, they could have smashed through my defenses at The Hive if they had wanted to and forced the city to switch from the CBA to a garrison unit, but they didn't...

I'll see if I can induce the AI to do it again...

Submarines mind controlling air units? I shudder to think what it must involve (hovering submarines? ) .

                      hovering submarines?
Yeah, imagine the sight of a sub jumping out of an ocean like a dolphin and connecting to your NJ's uplink slot..

How about an isle of the deep with the sub and cloak abilities? Not only could it transport, but it could attack as well...

As far as the most feared unit, I going to have to say 50 4-2-2 units under Miriams control sourrounding the 8 squares around your base...and believe me, I have had it happen, too bad I didn't have artillery...

                          Did the base suffer starvation?

I don't think so...I think I had a lot of choppers, I'm guessing with tachyon bolts, but not sure...it was before I uninstalled SMAX, so it would have been at least a couple months ago...I remember the game because I sent it to my friend on a floppy disk...if I could find the floppy, I could put the game here...very interesting game, lots of PBs...
