    Well, I tried one of the links that Petek posted, and one of the suggestions was to put TerrianX in 256color and Compatibility mode and no advanced text. Now I can run SMACX just fine. I would try that. Thanks Petek!

      TerrainX automatically runs in 256 colour for me. If you ever use <alt><tab> to switch out, you'd see it.

        I've tried all these things and none work. Compatibility modes (2000, NT, 95) seem to crash it in different ways. Running on a single 32-bit processor in XP Pro SP1.

          I have it running great with WinXP SP1, but I don't use the Planetary Pack launcher. It's quirky - sometimes it works, other times it crashes. Instead, I have two shortcuts on my desktop:
          The first launches terran.exe (Alpha Centauri) directly.
          The second launches terranx.exe (Alien Crossfire) directly.

          You do need these two lines at the top of your Alpha Centauri.ini for them to run:
          [PREFERENCES]
          ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1
          I am on a mission to see how much coffee it takes to actually achieve time travel.

            I believe those are supposed to be the last 2 lines on the .ini file not at the top.

            That makes me sad. :(

              I don't think that the location matters, as long as the forceoldvoxelalgorithm=1 appears in the [PREFERENCES] section (it's also the first two lines in my ini file).

              @Jirikisunta:

              If you're still looking for help, please post which game (SMAC, SMAX or both) you're trying to play, the exact text of any error messages and the specific steps that you've already tried to solve the problem. Thanks!
