  • Best Mods for better random maps...

I always have trouble searching on Apolyton, so I just gave up after half an hour...I was wondering where I could find some good mods...actually, I just want mods that change the settings for random maps, since the original ones suck and make one square like continent with little dots of islands around it...

Smacksim made some pretty good efforts in adjusting the worldbuilder section.
Check this out. It's his thread on the worldbuilder.

Man, you even can't imagine how useful link you gave!!!

It's just what I need for my CMN experiments!

        Isn't it?

Btw, have you ever heard of mindbusters?

IIRC, Mind Worms with the Planet Buster ability

In other words..... 0 defense against Mind Worms. You either kill them, or they kill you

Actually, when I first fathomed this idea, I suggested sealurks to be used as their prerequisite unit. That way players have way more time to expand ad build. Also, 'planetbombing' wouldn't occur so much for sealurks are spawned not so much.

Is there no danger of ending up in an endless loop here?

mindbuster explodes => planet angry => more mindbusters spawned => more exploding busters => planet even more angry => ...

                  ?

No, MW PBs dont create ecodamage since the 8th faction does not have any bases to generate ecodamage from.

But they can be captured by "Green" Factions (or anyone running a Green oriented SE setting) and then can be slung at the enemy at will.....

What I've been experimenting with is giving the LoC's a needlejet chassis, and the Fungal Tower a Carrier Special Ability. So far thought the AI doesn't seem to want to use it correctly..... I've also given the Fungal Tower a Gravship chassis in the hopes that this would allow them to be popped at sea, but alas this doesn't seem to occur (however a CMN can still place them onto sea tiles to give sea-bearing Factions something else to deal with!)

Getting back onto topic why Smacksim's mod to the random map generator is superior to anything I've seen, and I've spliced his mod into my own alpha(x).txt files to assist when I build maps for PBEM's and SP Challenges!

Sealurks would probably be a bad idea. How would you stop a sealurk from hitting a city? A sealurk would just come out of nowhere, invisable, no way to stop it. At least with MWs you can clear out the fungus around your cities. and keep empath rovers handy

                          I'm explaining this badly.

I'd changed the chassis to noodle or chopper one, and replaced those + the weapon in the #units list on the sealurk spot and linked it to another graphic.

Essentially, they're meant as a sort of sudden planetoid impact and to force a player to pay more attention to space defenses like Flechettes and ODP's.

So real sealurks wouldn't appear ingame anymore, just a rare planetoid, and those players with more ecodamage are of course a bit more likely to get 'hit' by one.

couldnt you still build them(the worms) yourself and have zillions of pb's?

the planetoid idea seems cool.did\does that work?

It works, yes. But afaik most people trying this out just tested the general idea with mind worms. The trick here is balance, meaning using a unit that 'spawns' only rarely, not as common as mind worms or IoD's.

Of course the unit mustn't be made producable.
