  • Getting Alpha Centauri to work on XP?

    Hi,

    I recently wanted to replay Alpha Centauri but when i came to install it on my PC it won't work.
    It installed fine, but when i click play it does nothing.
    I've tried running it in Windows 98 compatibilty - still nothing.

    Does anybody have any ideas?
    I really want to play it!

    Firaxis have released a patch that ensures compatibility with Win 2000/XP. Let me see if I can find a link.....

      You should install the Windows 2000/XP compatibility update, which can be found here:

      You might run into other problems even after installing this patch. If so, check the FAQ (top thread on the forum's page).

        I forgot:

        If you go into the Alpha Centauri directory, and open the file Alpha Centauri.ini you can edit the line:

        ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm

        if it reads:

        ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0

        then change it to 1 and vice versa.

        That should get the game to work for you, even without the compatibility patch.

          It might be that the game still won't start due to the .ini file being too empty.

          I had that after my last re-install, and solved it by copying someone else .ini file in the root.
