Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
The unit stands down to repair itself, while posting sentries and maintaining a state of readiness. It stays in position and does not reactivate unless:
* It repairs itself to the maximum it can achieve under current field conditions
* An enemy unit enters an adjacent square
* It is attacked by artillery
If used in a base, this command causes the unit to automatically board any transport that has room for it.
PLACE UNIT ON ALERT
Orders a unit to hold in the current square until an enemy unit comes within its movement range, then attack automatically. Air interceptor units automatically attack air units, Bomber units attack land and sea units, and naval units attack naval units and transports. Land units attack adjacent land units.
HOLD THIS POSITION
The unit stays in its current position indefinitely. You must activate it directly to change its orders.

So can a *-*-1 unit in a base placed on alert pre-emptivly attack a *-*-2 rover that uses 1mp to come adjacent to the base and another stored up to attack? Can someone who uses Alert comment on the details? Thanks.
I'd imagine so, if simultaneous turns were enabled in an MP game, but before you all go building best-1-1 garrisons, don't forget that they can only stop 1 unit a turn.
Not tested, just a guess.

Yes, on-alert units attack during the enemy turn if an enemy unit interdicts their coverage zone, it even interrupts the enemy unit's movement to do so. SAM Infantry _could_ be used to counterbattery incoming aircraft, but it will effectively only protect the square it occupies and the 8 surrounding squares, assuming they're all land. If some are water, your SAM Infantry won't be able to attack.
