Mirriam's best researching unit is the Probe team, particlarly a destroyer probe team. Inflitrate everybody's nets and steal their techs as they acquire them. (Capturing the HK Algorithm is a high priority)
For fighting, I sugest native units as well since they don't go obsolete.
Fundie + Green + Power allows for very powerful psi attack with your native units. Further improving once the Command Nexus is captured.
And also note that once you have a large enough empire, you can start researching again. The biological labs your building for your mind worms will help a lot with the 2 flat extra science when your not devoting much energy towards science.

Miriam is usable in multiplayer, though isn't particularly good. Support helps with the formers everyone loves, and Probe/Fanatic can turn the tide in combat. Once you get some of the crucial early techs (which is where you might get screwed by -2 Research), you can research almost as well as most factions. ICS is immediately an option, with Social Psych as a starting tech. Centauri Ecology is a must for the next tech, and then the IA beeline.
