  • Stupid Aliens

    The 2 alien races are cool. It's just that I like to play vs randomized factions and

    1) They don't gain energies from treaty trading;
    2) They don't take part in the council;
    3) Whenever 1 is around, the other will also be here;
    4) It seems that whenever I randomize at least 2 factions, they will always be there.

    And that takes a lot of fun out of the game,
    so I don't want them in my games. At least not every game anyway.

    So is there a mod that let me keep them out of randomizing factions or let them take part in the council, etc?

    Remove them from Alphax.txt file in your root SMAX/C folder

      Open up the alphax.txt file and scroll down to the "NEWFACTIONS" section (its about 3/4's of the way down the file). Remove the two entries for the Progenitors. Save off the file. This should do it.
      Note that in order to get the Prog's back into your games you'll need to do the reverse.

      Open up the Caretake.txt and Usurp.txt files (their about 4kB each). Remove the entry "ALIEN=X (I forget whether its a one or a zero). Save off the files. I think this will work - haven't tried it myself. Let me know if it works or not and I'll document it as such.

        Actually its more like "ALIENS, X". The entry is about 10% down from the top of the file.

          But if you remove the ALIENS flag, won't their other benefits AND their alien unit outlook disappear as well?

              Am currently playing a random game and was given the Caretakers.

              Got a real surprise when I nervestapled a base and my complete energy grid for all bases shut down for the duration of the ten years. Caused some real financial problems for me for a bunch of turns (I was running Dem/planned/wealth, and couldn't change to FM 'cos of a fifteen strong noodleforce engaged against the Gaians) as well as a major research hit.

              Far more onerous for an alien faction to nervestaple than for a human one

                [SIZE=1] 3) Whenever 1 is around, the other will also be here;
                Not true. Randomize as you wish, then just de-select either of the Aliens by selecting whomever else you wish to insert in the lineup. Even patched, a known bug.

                  Are you very sure? I don't think it will even let you start if you have exactly 1 alien in the lineup.

                    BTW, many thanks for all the solutions. Alas, my urge to dominate Alpha Centauri is has gone flat ( I HAVE played it for hundreds of hours) for the moment and I'm am now onto other oldies (Etherlords 1 and 2, which ain't half as great, but I haven't even finished 1 or started 2).

                    If I go back to Alpha Centauri again I'll be sure to let you know how these tweaks work out.

                      Absolutley positive. I do this often. Playing as H'minee is a kick - Lady G on steroids. Marr is not missed.

                        I just hate their annoying voices. It's painful to listen to.

                              Yup, but if you GM any pen n paper RPGs, you already have had your fill of that.
