  • Huygens lands

Just in case someone would be interested, but haven't heard yet. Huygens probe landed on Titan. Quite interesting landscapes there. There are not many processed pictures yet, but here you can see some:
Look to SolarViews.com for the latest pictures taken by the Huygens spacecraft.

Some time ago there was a probe, which entered Jupiter atmosphere, much more dense than that of Titan, but here there was also a landing.

One of the pictures show strange red fungus and a small object in the soil. The scientists zoomed in the image of the small object and found out that it was a holobook and this was written on its cover: "How to Raise a Nerve-Stapled Child".
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

not quite, for an explosion to occur, you would need oxygen, and lots of it in this case, luckily for the huygens probe, Titan doesnt have any (significant amounts)

even with oxyen present it would only explode on warmer(!) days, since methane has a flamimg point of -187 degrees celsius.

well, the heat generated by huygens descend through the atmosphere, or its desceleration boosters would have taken care of that, so lack of oxygen really was the only thing keeping that moon from blowing up.

That's what I love about SMACX, I leave a short note about some astronautics achievement and there goes a Planetology course (which I love too ) with all its chemistry and physics

Wouldn't that have been funny if the probe had accidentally exploded the surface of Titan? Not saying it's possible, since it clearly didn't happen, but think of the pictures.
It's really Synthetic God... I guess I didn't notice my own typo.

Any asteroid would have done that already
