There are? We should bugger them for sequel then. First SMAC was released after Civ 2, so SMAC 2 should be released after Civ 4. Trouble is, that Bryan Reynolds abandoned Firaxis and founded BHG so there won't be a sequel or it will be a faulty remake by Sid like current Civilisation sequels.

Great to see that they haven't just pulled it. As long as there is no sequel, there should be support.

Talking of sequels... I would be happy with a SMAC 1.5. Update the guts of the game to make it work flawless on new systems (OSX/WinXP), include SMAX and the best scenarios available. Maybe add a race or two to incourage sales. Include a printed strategy guide.

I would buy that as I'd love to have an OSX compatible, complete package.

The game runs well...there isn't that much incentive to fix the few bugs left.

And about OSX....Firaxis has nothing to do with that release so you can't really criticize them. That's a publishers decision.

(EDIT: Apologies - for SMAX, only the Angels and Cyborgs full data is there - the other refer you to the now extinct official Firaxis pages)

At one point in time (probably around Civ2), one would have thought that SMAC would be a great game cause it had Sid's name on it. Then after a while you realized that it was actually more Brian's doing. So now you think we have to have Brian Reynolds to have the next SMAC. Don't worry, SMAC2 could just as easily be designed by some up and coming intern with the right stuff.

Not that I don't respect Sid and Brian for their accomplishments, I do. Both, great men in the pantheon of game designers. I just don't hero worship.

I got reply. They still haven't forgotten us after all.

Yeah, on their new site layout, there's a button "Visit Official Site", which sends you to a disclaimer that you're leaving the Firaxis site.

                  SMAC:
                  http://firaxis.com/games/game_detail.php?gameid=7#

On the Pirates page, the button sends you ultimately to Atari, but from the SMAC page, it seems to be looking for, but 404ing:

                  http://www.firaxis.com/smac/game.cfm

Since the same problem with the same button happens on their Civil War page ( http://firaxis.com/games/game_detail.php?gameid=8 ) it's safe to bet that it's a glitch, and we'll be seeing a support page resurface soon.

But dead links on a relaunched site? Maybe I should apply for that webmaster job at Firaxis....

Dumpster diving for The Planetary Datalinks, I've come across this old official site:

                    http://alpha.owo.com/mainframe.htm

It has old Flash files with SMAC faction data, but also, versions of six of the original html faction pages (incl. Lal, but not Morgan) are here:

                    http://alpha.owo.com/factions.htm

and all the versions of the first seven wallpapers are here:

                    http://alpha.owo.com/coolstuff.htm

                    Nothing on SMAX, of course...

I think I'll have to put a call into this Briggs....
