I have ordered Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire, and have also downloaded the version 4.0 patch. Are there any known problems in installation and/or installing the patch? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Well, start a search and download of the 5.0 patch as well (XP compatibility patch).
Problems can occur if you have a new system with XP, your CPU may not be supported. In most cases it is no problem AFAIK. -
