I am playing the Univeristy in a couple of multi-player games. In one I had a choice of making a my first specialist either a Thinker or a Technician. Well, since I needed 99 research for my next tech breakthrough, and the F2 panel said I generate 132 research points/turn, I decided to figure out if the Thinker generated research would be wasted due to the research mechanics.
So I made a spreadsheet, listed the Base Status Display research for each base by founding order, and then figured out where I would generate 99 research points. It was too far down! I summed the column, and it totaled 112! That's way too little.
Multiplying by 20% gets 134, which is two points too high, unless there are some weird rouding errors, which I would not put past the game engine. They would have to be messed up, because rounding up, rounding down, and rounding to the nearest integer still don't get me 132 research points. I figure somebody here has figured this out in the past, I could swear I saw a thread on it ages ago.
