For some reason, whenever I start a game with the Cult as my opponent, I end up playing with only six factions... the Cult never shows up... never eliminated either... I can play as them fine... any ideas?

Mine has the same problem, they aren't considered an alien faction, but they show up with them some times, especialy if I'm playing with only one alien. Are you safe from the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide? Learn more at www.DHMO.org.

The manual is wrong on this point. You can easily set up a game with only one alien in itYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

What the game does is if there is one alien faction from randoming or otherwise and another random faction, it will be the other alien one.#play s.-cd#g+c-ga#+dgfg#+cf----q.c

I believe that it was intentional to make the Cult appear late in the game, as it is more realistic. In fact, to note that both aliens have to be in the same game, there is a download somewhere that makes the same thing true for the relationships between the gaians and cult, UoP and Cyborgs, and Morgan and the Angels, although I can't seem to find it at this moment...
