  • Bizarre AI Unit Appearance

I’m playing a Transcend, Random Map (Standard size) game as Morgan. I come across Lal to my south, and am poised to attack his only city (HQ), which is undefended, with a Battle Ogre. I decide to try to get him to declare Vendetta, so as to maintain my rep (cheap trick, true, but hey). I right-click on his comm frequency and select ‘Demand Withdrawal’. He asks me to reciprocate, I refuse and then, suddenly, he has a unit in his base! A colony pod has just appeared as a garrison! I reloaded and used the Scenario Editor to check. His colony pod just appears out of thin air. First he has only a scout and it’s a few tiles away, then suddenly, he has a scout and a colony pod. Anyone have any idea what happened?

I’ve appended the save file, if anyone wants to check and see if they can recreate the bug.

I'm not able to download your game now, but my guess is:

Demanding Withdrawal would cause any units in your territory to withdraw to his nearest base. He simply complied with your request.

    Q

edit: he probably started with two colony pods, so the other colony pod he withdrew was "independent" and wouldn't have shown up in his HQ support screen

I just rechecked my save after you suggested the possibility of his CP being in my territory. Lal's colony pod is indeed heading through my territory (for a good laugh, check out the AI's projected path - its half the map away from the HQ). However, I have confirmed that, even if I don't agree to withdraw my troops, Lal automatically withdraws his. Seems like a possibly useful glitch. (Has someone else run across this before?)
