  • Blind research: Always Centauri Ecology first

Perhaps my game is buggy, but I started 4 consecutive games with blind research, and I got centauri ecology first. I didn't think anything of it until I read a post by Enigma_Nova on a thread I made, Energy and Projectile Weapons/Armor, that stated how factions commonly got Centauri Ecology first. I didn't feel the need to do tests, but thought I'd ask you guys. THe four factions, Morgans, University, Angels, and Drones, all researched Centauri Ecology first, and in Zaks case, chose Centauri Ecology as free tech.

Do any other techs do this, say like, secrets of human brain? Does anybody actually know how the game chooses what techs with blind research?

And an old question. Apparently the answer never really came out, only speculation: Why, when doing directed research, is it that you can't always choose a tech that is technically available, but isn't a choice to pick from?

If you don't understand that, try this:

Play gaians with directed research, and don't get any other techs by trade or unity pods. Choose to research biogenics. Once you get it, however, you can't choose social pysch to get Secrets of Human Brain.

Now restart with the same conditions, and this time choose to get social pysch first. Once you get it though, biogenics is available, proving that the number of techs you have and tech levels do not affect your choices (since either way you have the same # of techs, and the techs are same level). Once you have both biogenics and social pysch, you can't research Secrets of the Human Brain.

Anybody know why this is like this?

It has happened that I didn't get centeco first but it is very rare.

As for funny research, I don't know.

              Do it like this:
Each tech in alphax has a number, from 0 to 2.
Each of these numbers has a remainder when divided by 3.

This divides the tech into 3 sets.
Which set you can pick varies with your tech, and whether you have traded or not.
