Windowed mode in Alpha Centauri, possible after all
I see you are using Firefox. I love it myself. As for window mode, I have always just used the window button, which allows me to open another application, and puts SMAC in a minimized mode on the task bar. Alt-Tabbing to another already opened application does the same thing. It isn't the same as having a less than full screen window, but I don't multi-task at home so it hasn't been an issue.
He's got the Midas touch.
But he touched it too much!
Hey Goldmember, Hey Goldmember!
That's because quitting the second game sets your display back to 16 bit (or whatever your Desktop runs)
You can run SMAX in the background normally by opening only one program and then switching to 16 bit in DISPLAY.
It also works for switching screen resolution.
Oh - CMN'ers have been doing this for years - build the scenario start game in one version, then simultaneously open another to check battle odds, try AI tactics, etc etc.
We knew that upon quitting one, the other resized to a smaller window - I just didn't realize that's what you meant by "run in a window"
Why, might I ask, would you want to play them game in a smaller window, and not play full blast with full screen? It is probably a simple reason, but even simple things just go right over me...
Loki Entertainment Software's Linux port of SMAX supports switching between windowed (and that's a proper window, decorations, movability and all) and full-screen mode, you just need to press alt-enter. That's what I consider usable .
I can't get mine in a window, but the windows key works great for switching programs anyways. All that realy matters is being able to change screen resolution so I can take screen shots that don't turn out all black, speaking of which, I got how you post pictures, but how do you upload them, is their something I missed?
